Our dance program curator is Danielle Shaw who is from Chicago has been professionally dancing and teaching for over 15 yrs.
Her background and training started in 1994 at Homer Bryant Ballet - which is now named Chicago Multicultural Dance Center, founded by Homer Bryant, creator of Hiplet. She’s also studied at, Dance Expressions, Joel Hall, Chicago Contemporary Dance Theatre, attended many Alvin Ailey workshops, and joined many dance teams, including Kentucky State University’s Golden Girls Dance Team, as a student athlete. She's trained in ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, and tap.
Danielle has performed all over the Midwest in many city festivals, fundraisers, numerous competitions, The Bud Billiken Parade, major dance events like Dance Chicago, along with professional companies such as Bal-Chi, and has received many awards for her performance skills. On the weekends she dances in an award winning Midwest Wedding Band named, Green Fourteen.
Our classes include tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop and more. These offerings will help our youth develop coordination and boost confidence. The village nurtures passion and creativity while teaching children dance fundamentals.
Ballet at the Simeon Alumni Village Hall is an introduction to the classical and modern dance styles for our youth. With ballet positions, terminology, basic steps, barre work, and floor work, this class furthers our youth’s understanding of dance fundamentals, expression through movement, and graceful poise.
In our fast-paced Jazz dance classes, we'll incorporate swing, African, hip-hop, salsa, and even a touch of ballet. Each week brings new moves and a new combination with its own unique approach. Our Hip-Hop classes will get your child up and moving and having fun! These classes will introduce dancers to the basic footwork, rhythms, musicality, and history of Hip-hop in a casual, friendly environment.
This lively class introduces our youth to one of Chicago's most energetic dance traditions. Attendees will shuffle, hop, and step-ball-change to many different musical styles and discover all the joys of tapping!
Learn fundamental dance steps and terminology, and use movement games and activities to learn combinations and encourage creativity. As our youth progresses through the program, more challenging steps and combinations are introduced along with some dance history.
